Uninstall and Reinstall QuickBooks POS(Complete Guide)

Before uninstalling and reinstalling QuickBooks POS, be sure to take the following steps.

A. Backup your QuickBooks POS Company File

• Open QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale
• Go to File > Backup Data
• Now choose Default Location
• Click OK

B. Update QuickBooks Point of Sale

• Go to Help
• Click Update QuickBooks Point of Sale

If an update is available, allow it to install.

C. Keep Product and License Number Accessible

Ensure to keep your QuickBooks POS license and product number handy before uninstalling it. You will require the product licensing info while reinstalling the software.

3 Methods to Uninstall and Reinstall QuickBooks POS

Method 1: Uninstall QuickBooks Point of Sale

In order to Uninstall QuickBooks POS:

• Press the Windows+R keys to open the Run command
• Type Control into the Run dialog and click OK
• Click on Programs > Programs and Features
• The next screen prompts you to the list of programs
• From the list, double-click on QuickBooks Point of Sale
• Click Yes to allow user permission
• It may take a while to uninstall the software
• Once the QuickBooks Point of Sale is uninstalled, please restart your computer

Method 2: Rename the existing QuickBooks POS Folders

Below is the list of existing QuickBooks Point of Sale Folders that need to be renamed.

In order to rename, add “.OLD” at the end of each following folder.

The location of the folders are:

• C:Program files (x86)IntuitQuickBooks POS XX
• C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale XX

Note: XX represents the QuickBooks Point of Sale version such as QuickBooks Point of Sale 19.0

Method 3: Reinstall QuickBooks Point of Sale

After renaming all the QuickBooks POS folders, here what’s you need to do in order to reinstall QuickBooks POS.

• Go to https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products
• Select your Country
• Then, select your Product, Edition, and Version(please see the below screenshot)

• Click Search
• On the next window click on Download
• Depending on your internet speed, the download setup may take some time to complete.
• Once completed, click on QuickBooksPOSVXX to start installing the software
• If asks, click Yes to allow user control permissions
• On the Installation Wizard, click on Next
• Choose I accept the terms in the license agreement
• Click Next
• Now enter your QuickBooks Point of Sale License and Product Number
• Then click, Next
• Choose the Setup Options according to your store requirement Only this Computer or Two or more computers

Only this Computer states that the current computer on which you’re installing QB POS will be the one and only computer to run it and additional computers can be added in the future.
Two or more computers state that the current computer and at least one more computer will be running QB POS.

• Click Next
• Click Install to begin the Installation
• Once the installation is completed, click on Finish to launch QuickBooks Point of Sale on your system.

It starts to check for new updates, we recommend you to click on Check Now and if updates are available choose Update Now and click OK
